Der er mange børn i parken.
There are many children in the park.
'Barn' is derived from Old Norse 'barn', which is fundamentally linked to Proto-Germanic *barną and is related to the Proto-Indo-European *bhergh meaning 'to carry'. This reflects the concept of children as being carried or born into families.
'Barn' is used in both formal and informal contexts, prevalent in everyday conversation and literature. It has no exceptional dialectical variations, being widely understood across Denmark.
